Despite the well documented connections between housing and health, local housing policy is not often developed with attention to its implications for the health of residents. Local government housing and health agencies often work in silos and miss opportunities to advance healthier communities through cross-agency efforts.
To help local housing officials work towards greater collaboration with peers in housing agencies, a new Housing Solutions Lab brief identifies strategies and frameworks for integrating health considerations into local housing strategies. The brief highlights development of a local housing strategy as a key collaboration opportunity and reviews Health In All Policies approaches and Health Impact Assessments as tools to help localities launch and sustain collaborative partnerships.
The brief also includes recommendations for local governments, philanthropy, and research stakeholders to help advance housing and health collaborations.
