Oakland was a part of the Housing Solutions Lab’s 2020-2021 Peer Cities Network. The Network brought housing officials and leaders from seven cities together to share information about how they were responding to the evolving COVID-19 pandemic and associated housing challenges.

This case study, combatting unsheltered homelessness in Oakland, describes how the “Oakland Community Cabins” program was developed and what it has accomplished to date to help combat one of its community’s largest problems.

Libby Schaaf, the Mayor of Oakland, was a panelist for our Housing Solutions Lab Launch event, which focused on the housing policy opportunities and challenges facing small and midsize cities.

Our Housing Needs Assessment Tool shows that the population in Oakland grew faster in Oakland than the housing stock between 2010 and 2020.
